So yeah. Now I have one dog, my Basenji, who is rather depressed right now, understandably. I know for the next few days I'm going to still be looking at the top of the stairs to check if she's lying there, and then remembering that she's gone.
Back in 1998, we answered an advert in the paper giving away a german shepherd/labrador cross, because the owners were moving and they couldn't take her with them. They would have put her down if we didn't answer. I'm glad we did, because when we got her and took her home we noticed that she had bruising under her pelt, as well as scratches and a nasty gouge in her ear. We immediately took her to the vet and they said that the previous family must have abused her something fierce. She was probably kicked a lot, because she had a phobia of feet, especially when she was laying down.
Anyway, she was 16 and a half when she died. It's a good age, I suppose. I'm not shedding any tears, but I will miss her. My mother is taking it worse though.
Now I'm wondering what kind of dog to get to replace her. Perhaps a husky or border collie.
